Education

We believe the path out of poverty starts with all children having access to education.

The Mikhail Foundation currently covers educational fees for over 250 children in El Mina, Egypt. While most education is free, it’s standard for all students to rely on outside tutoring. We support families by covering the costs of tutoring, books and other necessary school supplies.

The Mikhail Foundation focuses on funding educational necessities for young girls in remote villages at risk of dropping out of school to support immediate family needs. Egypt has made great strides in education for young girls. According to the World Bank, 87% of girls ages 15-24 are literate. In 2014, 153,405 girls were out of school, dropping to 45,132 in 2016. However, nearly 45% percent of the Egyptian population lives in poverty and on an income of less than $2 a day. In rural villages, access to educational resources can be a trade-off for daily essentials. To put it in perspective, many of the girls we support don’t have working toilets in their homes.

We partner with local community change makers to identify students at risk, and empower and equip these students to raise their families from poverty.
